Week 9 football roundup: Parker’s rushing, Paxton’s picks help Valley extend win streak to 5

Pioneer relies on strong first half to beat Judson for Hoosier North title; Winamac’s Rugg returns 2 kicks for TDs, but Caston pulls away; Culver rolls over S. Central

Tippecanoe Valley 31, Bremen 7 (Friday):

Wes Parker ran for 93 yards and two touchdowns, and Hunter Paxton intercepted Bremen quarterback Jack Wildauer twice as the Class 3A, No. 10 Vikings closed out their regular season schedule with an Indiana Northern State Conference home win over Bremen Friday.

Jamison Phillips added 67 yards on five carries and a touchdown, and he also had a 66-yard reception. Grady Moriarty had nine carries for 55 yards. Owen Omondi had 75 yards of total offense – 47 yards rushing, 28 yards receiving – on four touches.

Hudson Shepherd also had an interception.

Valley had a 307-112 advantage in rushing yards.

Gage Overbey converted all four of his extra point tries and also made a 25-yard field goal.

Valley, who led wire to wire in avenging a loss to Bremen last year, led 14-7 at halftime.

Valley won their fifth straight game and finished the regular season 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the INSC. They finished in second place in the INSc behind undefeated Knox.

Bremen fell to 5-4, 3-2.

Pioneer 36, North Judson 18 (Friday):

Micah Rans ran for 64 yards and three touchdowns and also intercepted a pass on defense, and Noah VanMeter ran for 114 yards and also had 14 tackles on defense for the Class 1A, No. 8 Panthers as they captured the Hoosier North title with a win over Class 1A, No. 2 North Judson at Liberty Field Friday.

Shiloh Rine added 53 yards rushing on seven carries and a touchdown, and Phillip McFatridge ran for 48 yards on five carries and also had an 80-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. 

Carter Mize had a 10-yard reception from Rans.

Pioneer ran for 277 yards on 6.1 yards per carry while holding North Judson to 118 yards rushing.

Mikaden Tolosa had 10 tackles, including 1.5 for loss, and J.J. Solano had eight. Blu Rosen had six tackles, and Cole Franklin and McFatridge had five tackles each. Eli Guffey had four tackles and also recovered a fumble that Tolosa forced.

Pioneer led 28-6 at halftime. 

Pioneer did not commit a turnover.

Pioneer had lost their previous four meetings to North Judson, including a 60-18 loss at the Panther Pit in 2024.


Caston 35, Winamac 13 (Friday):

Ashton Bowyer ran for 163 yards, and Gavin Mollenkopf ran for a touchdown and threw a touchdown pass and also intercepted a pass on defense for the visiting Comets as they beat Winamac for the first time since 2012 Friday.

Logan Mollenkopf caught two passes for 38 yards and a touchdown. Braxton Enyart, Tucker Woolever and Caymen Brown also had touchdown runs for Caston (3-6, 2-5 Hoosier North).

Woolever had 68 yards rushing and also had a team-high seven tackles on defense. Caston had 298 yards rushing as a team.

Winamac finished the regular season 2-7, 2-5.

Louis Rugg III returned the opening kickoff 79 yards for a touchdown and added an 89-yard kickoff return for a score to complete the scoring in the fourth quarter.

Caston held Winamac to six first downs and 89 yards of total offense.

Brayden Unger had four tackles and a sack, and Bowyer and Parker Zimpleman had four tackles each as well. Ethan Reasor had a fumble recovery.

Tearson Wolford led Winamac with 43 yards rushing and 12 tackles on defense. Xavier Adriano had 42 yards rushing.

Lucas Perez and Ethan Burgess had five tackles each.

Caston led 14-6 at halftime.

The teams could meet again in the Class 1A, Sectional 42 final.

Culver 44, South Central (Union Mills) 7 (Friday):

The host Cavaliers earned a Senior Night home win over South Central Friday.

Culver finished the regular season 3-6, 2-5 Hoosier North. South Central finished 0-9, 0-7.
