Winamac boys put 3 in double figures, improve to 1-1 in Hoosier North

Warriors finish in 7th at Red and Blue Classic

Boys basketball

Winamac 54, Culver 40 (Saturday): Carson Bennett scored eight of his team-high 14 points in the first quarter, and Russell Compton and Jaden Terry also scored in double figures for Winamac in a home win over Culver Saturday.

Compton had a pair of 3-point plays in the third quarter and had 11. Terry scored eight of his 10 in the second quarters.

Seven different Winamac players scored.

Owen Clingler scored a game-high 18 for the Cavaliers (2-3, 0-1 Hoosier North), who were playing for the first time since Dec. 8.

Cam Minix hit a pair of 3-pointers and had eight.

Culver made six 3-pointers as compared to Winamac’s one, but Winamac made nine of 11 foul shots while Culver made just six of 13.

Winamac led 30-24 at halftime.

Winamac (2-3, 1-1) beat Culver for the seventh straight year.

Winamac 56, South Bend Career Academy 43 (Wednesday): Russell Compton scored 11 of his 15 points in the second half for Winamac in a win over South Bend Career Academy in the seventh-place game of the Red and Blue Classic at Hebron Saturday.

Carson Bennett added 13, and he outscored the entire South Bend Career Academy team 10-7 in the third quarter.

Tyvon Henry led the Trailblazers (1-5) with 20 points.

Winamac improved to 1-3. Marquette Catholic won the tournament with a win over Hebron.

Lake Station hit eight 3-pointers and outscored Winamac 17-9 from the foul line.

Lake Station led 38-28 at halftime.

Carson Bennett and Russell Compton had six each, and Ryan Gregor had five.

Kaden Manna led Marquette Catholic with 21 points.

This was the teams’ first meeting since Marquette Catholic eliminated Winamac from the 2019 sectional.

Marquette Catholic outscored Winamac 27-7 in the second quarter and led 33-15 at halftime.
