Boys basketball
The Rochester boys basketball team is ranked No. 10 in the final Associated Press Class 2A poll of the season. It’s the Zebras’ highest ranking of the season and the first time they have been ranked in the top 10 going into the final poll of the season since 2009.
Rochester was ranked No. 12 last week.
Rochester (16-1, 9-0 TRC) will face North Newton in a Class 2A, Sectional 37 semifinal tonight.
If Rochester keeps winning in the IHSAA state tournament, No. 8 Blackford is the only team ranked ahead of them that they could face before the semistate.
College softball
Brown starts in Oakland debut: Oakland University freshman Maci Brown went 1 for 2 with a double, a walk and two runs scored in a season-opening 6-5 loss to Loyola (Chicago) at Draper Diamond in Nashville, Tenn., Friday.
Brown played left field and batted seventh in the Oakland lineup.
Brown is a 2020 Rochester grad.
Oakland was scheduled to play Lipscomb later Friday.
