Girls basketball
Winamac 51, Wabash 46 (Tuesday): Maggie Smith hit three 3-pointers in the first half and scored 15 points, and Marissa Iverson and Kandace Kroft scored 11 each for the Winamac girls basketball team in a 51-46 win over Wabash in a Class 2A, Sectional 36 quarterfinal at North Miami Tuesday.
Winamac improved to 13-9 and will play Pioneer, who received a bye, in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Sadie Popejoy added three treys and had nine points for Winamac, who won their first sectional game since 2019.
Smith also made all four of her free throw attempts in the fourth quarter.
Kaitlynn Honeycutt scored 15 points to lead Wabash, and Bryleigh Boggs and Kierra Wilson added 10 apiece.
Winamac hit four 3-pointers in the first quarter to build an 18-7 lead. They led 25-17 at halftime and 35-27 after three quarters.
The game featured 43 fouls and 55 free throw attempts.
